In 1969 Jamaican Ska artist Derrick Morgan wrote a song called ‘Moon Hop’ to commemorate the Apollo Moon landing.The British Afro-Caribbean Ska and Reggae band Symarip wrote and released Skinhead Moonstomp shortly afterwards and although they claimed that there was no relation between the songs Derrick Morgan disagreed calling them ‘copy cats.’
In 1980 in the wake of the 2 Tone revolution Skinhead Moonstomp was re-issued.Other notable versions of the song are by The Specials and the late great Judge Dread.
