The 1000 best songs in the world ever.
503-Minnie Ripperton-Lovin’ You.
1975-Number 2 single.
Best Bit-At 2.56.I bet your surprised to see I’ve included the birdie song.
Minnie Ripperton died from breast cancer at the age of 31 in 1979.She had a five octave coloratura soprano, which is a type of operatic soprano voice.
As a youngster she trained to be an opera singer but instead chose Soul and Rhythm & Blues.
At the age of 15 she joined the girl group ‘The Gems’ and was one of the backing singers on the classic 1965 Fontella Bass song Rescue Me.
Lovin’ You was co-written by Ripperton and her husband Richard Rudolph(see best songs 735) and produced by Stevie Wonder, who also played Keyboards on the song and it’s accompanying Album ‘Perfect Angel.’
It will come as no surprise that Mariah Carey states Minnie Ripperton as one of her main influences.
‘Stay with me while we grow old and we will live each day in springtime.’
