Stormy Weather was written in 1933 with lyrics by Ted Koehler and music by Harold Arlen.Other well known songs they wrote together include ‘Get Happy’ and ‘Let’s Fall In Love.’Arlen was a prolific writer responsible for classics such as ‘Blues In The Night’ and ‘Over The Rainbow,’from the movie ‘The Wizard Of Oz.’
Lena Horne first recorded ‘Stormy Weather’ in 1941,but in 1943 she recorded a new version for the movie of the same name.She recorded the song on at least five different occasions throughout her career.
