The song was written by Herman Hupfeld for the 1931 Broadway musical ‘Everybody’s Welcome,’ but was made memorable when sung by Arthur ‘Dooley’ Wilson in the 1942 film ‘Casablanca.’The song connected Rick Blaine(Humphrey Bogart) and Ilsa(Ingrid Bergman.)
Aside from being an actor Dooley Wilson was a professional drummer by trade and did not play the piano.In the film the piano is dubbed and Wilson pretends to play.The pianist was Eliot Carpenter.
