The 1000 best songs in the world ever.
718-Prefab Sprout-Cars And Girls.
1988-Number 44 single.
Best Bit-At 0.49 No question,Paddy McAloon is one of Pop music’s most underrated artists.
Prefab Sprout were formed in 1980 in Witton Gilbert,County Durham.Their name came from a misheard lyric from the Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazlewood song ‘Jackson.’The correct lyric is ‘We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout.’Paddy McAloon misinterpreted it as ‘hotter than a prefab sprout.’
The song is a dig at Bruce Springsteen’s perceived limited subject matter in his songs.Songwriter Paddy McAloon suggests that Springsteen’s worldview is too restricted and that ‘some things hurt more than cars and girls.
