Dobie Gray(July 26-1940-December 6 -2011) was an American singer and songwriter whose musical career spanned Soul,Country,Pop and Musical Theater.His two big hit singles were in 1965 with The In Crowd and in 1973 in America with Drift Away,but it is with Out On The Floor that UK audiences and especially Northern Soul fans will always associate him with.In 2000 Wigan Casino DJ Kev Roberts compiled the Northern Soul Top 500 which was based on a survey of Northern Soul fans and this song originally recorded in 1966 was placed at Number 2.
